Chasing our dreams into the heart of the storm.

Ok, so we're not actually sisters... but we are true Twister Sisters! We started chasing together in 2001 and have become best of friends. We enjoy life and a good glass of wine, think the same way, and have a common desire... to live our passion, capture the perfect wedge, do what we can to help make this a better world and share special memories with those we meet along the way. We always learn from each successful chase and each bust.

We both have a Bachelor's Degree in Science and completed several Meteorology courses at Saint Cloud State University and Severe Storm Forecasting classes from Tim Vasquez and College of DuPage . Over the years we have worked for FOX 9 News in Minneapolis, MN and taught basic and advanced Skywarn classes for the National Weather Service. In the early years, we even volunteered as IHOP Mobile Mesonet Operators at the National Severe Storms Laboratory.  Throughout the years we have given many presentations and talks about a variety of severe weather topics and case studies both locally and nationally (see our Features page for a list).  We really enjoy sharing our passion and knowledge with others!

In 2007/2008 we were featured on a reality TV series, "Twister Sisters", on WE TV. We were also involved with two documentaries on The National Geographic Channel and have been interviewed on Good Morning America, Entertainment Tonight (NBC), ABC, FOX, MS-NBC, Anderson Cooper and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Our video has also been aired on NBC, CNN, and The Weather Channel.

Melanie Metz

I have had a passion for weather, tornadoes and photography since I can remember!  I started dreaming about tornadoes when I was 6 years old living in Tucson, AZ....and I haven't stopped dreaming.  I finally realized my dreams and passions as an adult, after college, and have been chasing ever since.  I've also worked over the years as a Chemist, a Corporate Training Manager, a Training Content Developer and an Adult Foster Care Provider.

I have spent most of my life in the Minneapolis area and started photographing weddings in 2006.  I escaped to the enchanting San Juan mountains in Colorado for a couple years.  I owned and operated a successful photography studio in Telluride, shooting weddings, portraits, commercial work for local businesses and portfolio work for artists.  I also got lots of practice skiing on some steep terrain!

Outside of chasing storms in the spring, I am living a wonderful life in Minneapolis with my 2 dachshunds and my husband/ soul mate, Dave Thompson.  I am currently focusing my energy on wedding photography and fine art portraiture.  In addition to shooting pics, I’m always taking workshops and learning more from other experts in the field about photography, weather and spirituality.

I believe life is about following your passion, sharing love, and enjoying the amazing adventure of each day.

I have been fascinated with severe weather as long as I can remember. Growing up in Indiana, there were plenty of storms, and every time my parents would try to get me into our basement, I would sneak out for a look at the action!

I graduated from Purdue University with a BS in Biology/Chemistry. I have completed post-graduate work in Meteorology at St. Cloud State University-- what fun that was!

When not chasing, I am a huge fan of motor sports, especially Formula 1.  I am very active in the Friends of Hunting Island Sea Turtle Conservation Program, and also enjoy rock hounding, cooking, and gardening. My new goal is to become proficient at horseback riding, while still staying in one piece!

My husband and I have two Golden Retrievers and nine cats, so I guess you could say I am a real pet lover.  Our daughter is a police officer in Georgia, and we are very proud of her and her chosen profession.

I live on Lady’s Island, in the Sea Islands of South Carolina. As much as I enjoy my home, when spring rolls around it's time to hit the road, and enjoy all the beauty of this vast nation, sharing the experience with my Twister Sister!
